Curriculum Vitae WŁODZIMIERZ CIMOSZEWICZ Personal Information Born In 1950, In Warsaw Poland. Married to Barbara, two children Natasza and Tomasz, three granddaughters. Political Positions 2007 – present Senator (independent), Polish Parliament 1989 – 2005 Member of Polish Parliament Member of numerous parliamentary committees among them the Minorities Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee. 2005 Speaker of the House (Sejm), Polish Parliament 2001 – 2005 Minister of Foreign Affairs Responsible for Polish accession to the European Union. Proposed a model of reform for the United Nations. As a Chairman of the Committee of Ministers, represented the Council of Europe in round table talks during the presidential election crisis in Ukraine. Created Diplomatic Academy of Poland. 1996 – 1997 Prime Minister Negotiated Polish membership to NATO. Reformed the structure of government and achieved the highest economic growth since the collapse of communism. Credited with the most successful decrease in unemployment since 1989, in Poland. 1995 – 1996 Chairman of the Constitutional Committee of the National Assembly Responsible for heading efforts that led to the creation of the new Polish constitution. 1995 – 1996 Deputy Speaker of the House (Sejm), Polish Parliament 1993 – 1995 Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Launched the first anti-corruption campaign “Clean Hands”, whose main objective was to bring financial transparency to the highest levels of Polish government, and financial accountability for public servants. 1995 – 1996 1992 – 1993 Member of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly and a rappourteur to the Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights 1990 - 1991 Chairman of the largest political parliamentary Caucus of the Democratic Left Academic Accomplishments 1978 Doctorate in Public International Law, Warsaw University. 1972 – 1985 Lecturer at the Institute of International Law of Warsaw University. 1980 – 1981 Fulbright Foundation scholar and a lecturer at Columbia University, New York. 2006 – present Head of the Foreign Policy Center at the Law School of Białystok University. 1997 – present Honorary Lecturer at the Wofford College, Appalachian State University, University of New York, University of South Carolina, Furman University, Queens College, University of Maryland, and several other academic institutions in the US and Canada. Honorary Doctorates: University of South Carolina, Appalachian State University, and Odessa University in Ukraine. Special Interests Avid supporter of environmental issues and an ardent defender of Polish ecology. Passionate photographer of nature, in particular of the pristine Białowieza Forest. Great interest in world history and emerging technologies. |
